Hatha Yoga Corpus Christi
Melissa Morales
I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister and yoga teacher. The latter came later in my life, but came at the right time. I was looking
for something, not knowing what, I set out to explore. I tried to go back to college. I tried looking for another job, thinking I just
needed a change, one office to another.  I don't know why I thought that would work, but neither of those seemed quite right.
During this time my son graduated from high school and moved away from home to attend college in another state, and my
daughter was right behind him, to attend beauty school in another state as well. But all through this I had yoga. I always looked so
forward to class, my away time. Then it came to me, why not take something that gives me peace and that I enjoy and give that to
others. I asked my instructor about the training. I thought about the commitment and time it would take, it only took about a week
for me to mull it over, and jumped in, head first. I quit my job as an office manager and started my training the next week. The
training itself was a journey, physically and emotionally, but I had been told nothing comes easy. I met some great people in the
training, each had different expectations that we would get from the training, and I think we came away with more than we
thought. I am looking forward to where yoga may take me, or where I may go and take yoga with me.

Foundation in Santa Barbara California, where she completed her 200 hour teacher’s certification. She received her Relax and

introducing different styles of yoga to Corpus Christi yogis by organizing workshops and hosting the guest instructor. Paula
believes yoga is a continuous learning process. By practicing yoga she has been able to balance her life in good and tough times.
She combines her love of travel and yoga by attending workshops and teacher trainings around the country. Paula is always eager
to expand her horizons in this wonderful world of yoga.
Yoga has been a study of mine for most of my life. What started out as a brief lesson from an eccentric, yet enlightened high
school basketball coach turned into a life-long passion for the pursuit and knowledge of one of the world's oldest practices still in
existence. In the fall of 2007 I received my certification in Hatha & Solar Yoga and joined the Yoga Alliance community. I continue
to attend workshops in and around Texas to further my own knowledge of yoga: including Anusara workshops with Christina Sell,
Viniyoga continued education workshops with Gary Kraftsow,
Zazen meditation with Dr. Sencerz, and lectures in Eastern
philosophy.
In conjunction with my Eastern studies, I hold a shodan black belt in the Shorin-ryu Mastumura Seito system.  In the
Spring of 2009 I traveled to India with a great
group of people and continued my education in the path of yoga.  Presently I am
working towards a PhD in Psychology with an emphasis in Eastern/Western Philosophy and the Health Sciences.

Practicing yoga since 1999; I began yoga as a way to increase body awareness, spirituality, and reduce stress in my life. Yoga has
opened my life in many wonderful ways. Yoga has not only helped me become centered and provide me with a feeling of calmness,
it has also enabled me to deal with the world and everyday situations with more ease. Yoga provides physical benefits for the body,
and is healing to the mind. I enjoy helping students of all abilities gain strength and flexibility with yoga poses. I help instruct using
breath and mediation to relax and bring an inner awareness to connect our body, mind, and spirit.
Carrie Robertson
Carrie Robertson leads the Hatha Flow yoga class at the downtown Corpus YMCA on Mondays and Thursdays at 7 pm. Her
introduction to yoga came in 1989 through an Asthanga Yoga class in Hood River, Oregon, which she took to stretch her muscles
after long days of windsurfing. During the 1990s, she practed yoga in Mexico and Hawaii while working as a windsurfing
instructor. In 2000, she followed the wind to Corpus Chrisit and began practicing yoga under Camille Thomasson at the YMCA.
When Camille moved to the East Coast in 2007, Carrie began leading the YMCA yoga classes, following the vinyasa flow style that
Camille had pioneered. Carrie enjoys enriching her yoga skills by reading Yoga Journal, attending other yoga classes in Corpus, and
taking occassional weekend yoga workshops.
